What fun!

Thanks to everyone who participated in and came out to watch the women comedians in the Pacific NW Women's Comedy Festival on November 14 & 15th. My sides still hurt and I can't get the goofy grin off my face. That'll teach me to use Gorilla glue.

We had eighteen comics take the state and they joked about everything from A.D.D. to Egyptian history, from jobs at Wal-Mart to Viagra, from Bruce Lee to Mary Kay.

If you missed the Festival, keep your eyes and ears open next November. We'll be back!

A Great Girls' Night Out

2q1p1867

I just got an e-mail from a friend who said she's bringing six friends with her the Festival. Because if you're going to spend all night laughing, why not do it with six (or twelve or twenty) of your closest friends?

Of course that means, you want to make sure and get tickets early so that you can all sit together. So go ahead and call Actors' Cabaret at 541/683-4368 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday or log onto http://www.actorscabaret.org/tickets.php (from there go to Online Ticket Purchase Page in the first paragraph and scroll down to Pacific NW Women's Comedy Festival.

I'm really excited about the line-up of comedians for both days -- in fact, I'm thinking about doing ab crunches (not Nestle's crunches -- I already do those) every day up until the Festival so that my stomach is strong enough to take all the laughing.

Friday night's event features some of Eugene, Corvallis & Portland's best. Melody Dodd killed at The McDonald Theater at the Chuckles for Charity benefit for Save the Pets in August. Sarah Ulerick, aka, Old Queen Bananita Sluginsky, is the talk not only of Eugene, but of Harvard, where she left them in stitches at her last reunion (which proves that Ivy Leaguers do have a sense of humor, for those of you who were wondering.) Ashly Reiss is a regular featured performer at Diablo's and she promises not to cyber stalk you after the show.

Virginia Jones and I were part of the sold-out Mother's Day performance at Three Rivers Casino in May. Virginia was a finalist in the 2007 Portland Comedy Competition, The Portland Mercury's PIZZAZZ Comedy Talent Show, and the Portland Comedy Knockout. I'm fresh from my first one-hour stand-up show for 200 women in Sisters. Veronica Heath, was our first featured comedian, so scroll down to see more about how funny she is! The Free Range Chix can not only make you laugh, but they can really sing -- the way you think you can sing when you're in the shower, but later find out is not the way you actually sing. And Potpie Theater, well, you can read about them in the last post. They were so hysterical at our Festival last year, they're keynoting Friday night.

After the Friday night show, you can meet and greet and laugh with all of these wonderful comedians, as well as the eight women who will be performing on Saturday, from 10 p.m. until midnight. If you're looking for a great gift for a girlfriend, spouse, partner, co-worker, mom, or former political candidate, a ticket to our Booze & Schmooze is only $25.

Saturday night's line-up features one more Eugenian plus seven Seattle women who are coming all the way to Eugene for the Festival! Sebrina Doyle-Schultz, a regular at Eugene Celebration and the Cottage Grove Elks' Club, will lead off the evening. Amy Alpine, who is both a sexologist and a comic, prides herself on rarely getting the two confused. She is the former producer of Standing Room Only, a TV comedy talk show. Robin Fairbanks was featured on this site earlier -- scroll down to see her write-up (look hard, she's tiny). Bryley Hull writes, does improv and spends time with family... and not just to get new material. She has performed all over Seattle.

JeanAnn O'Brien is a big force in the Seattle comedy scene, but if the new diet works, that won't be true much longer. She is the founder of the Divine Order of the Ha Ha Sisterhood and has played in comedy clubs and for conferences, luncheons and retereats al around the country. Suzanne Park was a finalist in the Oxygen Network's Girls Behaving Badly talent search. In 2005, she was the winner of the Seattle Sierra Mist Comedy Competition, and in 2007, a semi-finalist in NBC's Stand-Up for Diversity Showcase. Lizzy Pilcher has performed all over the Pacific Northwest, including the Seattle Comedy Underground, Tacoma Comedy Underground, Giggles Comedy Club, and Yuk Yuk's in Vancouver, B.C. Alysia Wood was selected by Campus Activities Magazine as a Hot Comedian of 2009. She appeared on Bob & Tom, Comedy Time, and in bankruptcy court.

I don't know about you, but I'm laughing already. And let's face it, you'll never get another chance to see this many great women comedians in one space on one weekend. So treat yourself and your best friends. You'll be so glad you did.

Potpie_press_3 Here's a secret about the Pacific Northwest Women's Comedy Festival -- we actually let a guy perform. I know, it is so daring and cutting edge of us. But Russell Dyball, one half of PotPie Theater, is funny enough to be a woman. Besides, his partner Angie Riley says she's kind of used to having him around, after thirteen years of performing together. He has better wigs too.

Angie and Russell are on our ticket for Friday, November 14th. You'll love their wacky, oddball mix of sketch comedy and improvisational theater. A typical PotPie Theater show veers from the ridiculous to the sublimely more ridiculous. They call themselves, "50% lesbian, 200% funny" and feel they get along so well because they both love women.

And so do we. And men. Which is why, even though it's the Pacific Northwest Women's Comedy Festival, men are welcomed and encouraged to be in the audience.  In fact, if you have to nag, wheedle, or Tase your favorite man to get him to come along, he'll be happy you did. Especially if you get him drunk while he's there.

Our schedule is now set and Nov. 14th is the Best of Oregon show, while Nov. 15th is the Best of Washington (with one Best of Oregon woman thrown in for good measure). You'll want to see it all. After all, where else can you get this much comedy in one place for so little money?

For tickets, call 541/683-4368 or visit www.actorscabaret.com/tickets.php. For more information, call Leigh Anne (festival organizer) at 541/688-1674.

Who You'll See Performing This Year

As we count down the weeks until the election and watch our 401K plans turn into 200.5 K plans (that’s a math joke, which I warn comics about ALL THE TIME, but do I listen?), there’s only one thing that keeps me smiling – getting ready for the Pacific NW Women’s Comedy Festival!

November 14 & 15th isn’t that far away, so it’s a good idea to go ahead and reserve your tickets online at http://www.actorscabaret.org/tickets.php or by calling 541/688-1674. The shows run from 7-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Actors Cabaret of Eugene. Tickets are $25 each night (two completely different shows with different women comics) and an additional $25 if you want to participate in the Booze & Schmooze with the comedians from 10-midnight.

The roster is filling out nicely. To date, we have onboard: Amy Alpine (Seattle), Melody Dodd (Eugene), Robin Fairbanks (Seattle), The Free Range Chix (Corvallis), Veronica Heath (Portland), Leigh Anne Jasheway-Bryant (Eugene), Virginia Jones (Portland), Newman (Eugene), JeanAnn O’Brien (Seattle), Suzanne Park (Seattle), Lizzy Pilcher (Seattle), Potpie Theater (Eugene), and Sarah Ulerick (Eugene).

So let me take this opportunity to introduce you to another one of our performers up close and personal.

A San Francisco native, Veronica Heath has been living in Oregon now for almost three years and is serving shots of 100 proof comedy all over the Portland Metro Area and beyond. She has worked with many talented nationwide comedians. She was a part of the Shades of Laughs Comedy Tour and placed in the finals of the 2007 Stephen Colbert Portland Amateur Comedy Competition and others. Often referred to as a Party Girl Comic, Veronica delivers comedy that will have you blushing a little and laughing a lot. Her relatable views on men and women, growing up in a blended family, many medical adventures and the mental challenges that resulted from these and other experiences, will shine a different light on the way you look at things.

Featured Comedian -- Robin Fairbanks

The Height of Comedy is 4' 11"

Standing a whopping 4'11".... Robin Fairbanks is no lightweighRobin_headshot1 t as she takes audiences on a fun-filled introspective journey into her somewhat twisted, dysfunctional world. You're in for one hilarious romp through life, all through the eyes of a woman who truly understands that, Life is short.

Robin's wide appeal can be attributed to her fresh, clean, mature wit, which gained her notoriety in the Northwest as one of Seattle's best up-and-coming comedians.

A native Ohioan, Robin cut her teeth in Musical Theatre where she always found herself cast as the wacky character.  "It was said, that I wouldn't play a role unless I could wear fur, feathers, or a corset", Robin says laughingly.

Fondly known as, The Jingle Lady, Robin honed her writing skills as part of a creative team specializing in creating Musical Jingles and Radio/TV Commercials for Keynote Productions in Ohio, and for JingleBank, a division of TM Century in Dallas, TX.

Shortly upon her arrival in Seattle , Robin split her time as a contributing Writer/Cast Member of a local Sketch Comedy show,"The Night Shift", as well as appearing in local and national commercials and film. Robin's been heard on the NPR show "Weekday" and "America at Night" online.

Robin also founded, Comics for Causes, where she has twice taken shows to the soldiers of the USS Abraham Lincoln. Robin's dream?  To join fellow comics with, Comics on Tour for Armed Forces Entertainment.

She has opened for Headliners....Doug Stanhope, Maria Bamford, Ralph Harris, Alonzo Bodden, Sue Murphy and Bobby Slayton to name a few.  Besides regular appearances on a Northwest circuit of clubs and casinos, Robin also graced stages across Ohio, Oregon, Texas, and Pennsylvania.

Robin co-founded The Material Girls and The Divine Order of the Ha Ha Sisterhood shows in Seattle in 2003 to give up-and-coming female comics a place to hone their skills under the mentorship of professional working comics with audiences who craved their brand of humor.  Starting with just 10 female comics, currently over 30 comics are in rotation and continue to break attendance records 5 yrs later. Visit: www.hahasisterhood.com JeanAnn O'Brien is now Sole Producer and Robin produces, The Material Girls but appears in both shows.
